Symposium has no accounts, no sign-in, and no server of its own. What you read, save, and complete stays on your device. This page lists exactly what is stored, what leaves the device, and how to erase it.
What Symposium stores on your device
Symposium keeps one entry in your browser’s local storage (on iOS, the app’s own web storage) under the key symposium:v1. It holds:
- the ideas you have opened, saved, and completed, each with the time you did so;
- your reading streak: the last day counted, the count, and any banked repairs;
- the schools and topics you picked when you first opened the app;
- the idea you are in the middle of reading and the beat you reached;
- the sentences you marked while reading;
- the date you last dismissed the weekly summary;
- your preferences: feed view, theme, whether onboarding is done, which hints you dismissed, whether the streak is shown, the reminder hour, and the text size.
That is the whole record. It contains no name, no email address, no location, and no device identifier. You can read it in full with “Export my data” in Settings.
The iOS app
Nothing leaves the device. The app contains no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising code, and no third-party SDK beyond the Capacitor shell that runs it. The daily reminder is a local notification the app schedules on your phone; there is no push server. The home-screen widget shows the day’s plate from the atlas bundled with the app; it reads nothing of your record and makes no network request. The record stays on the device until you erase it (Settings → Reset all data) or delete the app; the developer never holds a copy.
The website
The web version at symposium.aperturetechnologies.net counts page views with Cloudflare Web Analytics. That count is anonymous: it sets no cookie, stores nothing in your browser, and does not identify you across sites. Like any host, Cloudflare handles the network request that delivers each page; Symposium sees only aggregate view counts. Your reading record is never sent to Cloudflare or to us.
Sharing and outside links
When you share a plate, the image is drawn on your device and handed to your system’s share sheet. Symposium does not see where it goes. The “Read free” links open other sites, such as Project Gutenberg and Wikisource, in your browser; each has its own privacy policy.
Children
Symposium collects no personal data from anyone, including children under 13. The app carries the age rating shown on its App Store page and has no chat, no purchases, and no way to enter personal details.
How to see or erase your data
Open Settings. “Export my data” gives you the stored record as a JSON file. “Reset all data” erases it and restarts the app as new. Deleting the iOS app also removes the record. On the web, clearing site data for symposium.aperturetechnologies.net in your browser does the same.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the new version appears here with a new effective date. Questions go to luca@aperturetechnologies.net.
